5. Students are still very proud that they are working on solving class problems on their own. They are enjoying having the power to talk about their "issues" during our morning huddle. One of the conditions about sharing is that you can talk about behavior that is bothering you, but you cannot name any names. It is a place where we can be honest about what helps us work best, but we can also be sensitive to our teammates and not make anyone feel bad. Students are listening to each other and responding by being kind and respectful to each other.
4. I am very happy with where we are in math on our addition. Students did well on the addition problems that I left with the guest teacher. I worked with a couple students who missed some problems, but they were able to correct their errors on their own. We are also working very hard on place value. I am looking forward to pushing them this week and trying to finish most of this unit on place value this week. We also will be taking the STAR assessment this week to see how we are doing. I am excited to see how they will do.
3. Mrs. Thomas (reading specialist) came in to give out brag tags for completing the summer reading challenge. She told us that we had more gold medal winners than any other class. I was proud of how many of my students participated in the summer reading challenge. I look forward to celebrating with my students this Friday during the pizza reward lunch. I hope these students developed great habits and they are continuing to read every night. It is very apparent as a teacher which students are working at home as well as at school on their reading. It makes a difference.
2. Many students enjoyed our writing lesson on Friday. We practiced writing great leads and then searched through books for good examples of leads from professional writers. I was animated during my lesson and I saw many excited smiles as kids were connecting with my examples and I could tell they were excited to practice. When they had a chance to try it out, I heard some great examples of exciting leads. I love listening to students put lessons into practice.
1. I am proud of this team. I was very happy to come back to a positive sub note on Thursday night after being out for professional development. Along with having a good day with the guest teacher, we also had other successes in meeting our expectations. We earned our Friday bonus seconds for Rocket Math for doing a better job getting ready and being able to transition between practice and the test better. Students also pointed out that they felt successful that we were able to laugh at something funny this week without it getting us off track during a lesson. I agree that our attention to lessons is getting better. I am looking forward to a great week this week as we start to ramp up academically.
